Three earthquakes were recorded in Georgia during August, the strongest a 2.4 magnitude which occured far outside of the area where Georgia earthquakes most often occur. The quakes were recorded and reported by the US Geological Survey, which maintains seismograph stations throughout the US.

July was a quiet month on the Richter Scale for Georgia, with the state registering only one earthquake after experiencing six quakes each month in May and June. Georgia's only measureable earthquake in July was recorded on July 25 at 1:57 am centered approximately six miles northeast of Eton, GA, in Murray County. According to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude of 2.4 at a depth of approximately six miles below the surface. The quake was centered within the Chattahoochee National Forest.
