Daffodils, Tulips and Lilies, Oh My! Spring Brings a Fresh Pastel Palette to Gibbs Gardens

    2023-03-25

No matter what your favorite Spring color may be, you'll likely find it among the March and April blooms at Gibbs Gardens near Ball Ground, GA.

We made one of our regular visits this past week (March 23), driving up from Acworth and Marietta in Cobb County to find the tulips and lilies in full color glory. And while recent freezes appeared to our untrained eyes to have taken a toll on the daffodils, the hills remained ablaze with some of the mid-to-late bloomers which escaped the cold.

The freezes also appeared to have slowed the arrival of some of the colors in the Japanese Gardens and with the blooming trees.

As usual with our Spring visits, we took to the hills first, walking through the 50+ acres of blooming daffodils. Along the way, we enjoyed the views of the nearby mountains framed by the colorful spring hillsides.

Afterwards, we strolled by the Manor House, then on to the Japanese Gardens and finally the tulips and lilies.

The sturdy tulips were reaching for the sunny sky, with sprinkles of dew still clinging to their cup-shaped petals as the morning sun shone. A few bees buzzed around, with an occasional butterfly also spotted among the blooms.

On this visit, we spotted Gibbs Gardens’ founder, Jim Gibbs, who was recording video with a production crew among the tulips. A small crowd gathered to watch and listen as Gibbs and the crew discussed a potential video for The Travel Channel.

Of course, we renewed our annual memberships on this first visit of the year, and are looking forward to returning multiple times in 2023 to monitor the ever-changing landscape. Afterwards, we enjoyed a stroll through downtown Ball Ground, which is enjoying a revival of new business.
