Georgia's only measureable earthquake in July was recorded on July 25 at 1:57 am centered approximately six miles northeast of Eton, GA, in Murray County. According to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake registered a magnitude of 2.4 at a depth of approximately six miles below the surface. The quake was centered within the Chattahoochee National Forest.

While the quake was detected on measurement instruments from several recording stations in the Southeast United State, USGS records indicated that only one report of the quake was received from the public. No damage was reported as a result of the quake, according to USGS.

The one-quake-month of July was unusual for Georgia. While there are no active fault lines in the state, an average of approximately small earthquakes are registered annually in Georgia according to historical data from USGS. Most of those quakes register at magnitudes of 2.5 or below, considered "weak" or "light" by USGS classification standards.

According to the reporting site AllQuakes.com, since 1900, Georgia has experienced 103 quakes of magnitudes above 3 and up to 5.2.
