Georgia's Skidaway Island State Park, located in the low country marshes south of Savannah, ranked No. 5 in The Dyrt's 2024 annual listing of best places to camp in the Southeast. The Georgia State park returned to the list this year after being included in 2022, but left off in 2023. Park rankings in The Dyrt's regional listing are determined by reviews and ratings from the website's vast community of campers. Camping parks can include national parks, state parks and private camps.

For the unfamiliar, Skidaway State Park borders Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s Intracoastal Waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife.

Campers in The Dyrt's community praised Skidway for it's large campsites, clean facilities and the new visitor center. Overall, Skidway earned a 4.5 star rating, while receiving a host of top 5-Star ratings from visitors.

Visitors also enjoyed the state park's proximity to Savannah, while maintaining a remote and natural environment.
