If Hurricane Helene doesn't spoil the opportunity for Georgia, visits to all National Parks and National Park managed lands are free on Saturday, Sept. 28.

That's because the National Park Service is celebrating National Public Lands Day with free admissions in Georgia and around the country.

According to the US National Parks Service, "National Public Lands Day is organized annually and led by the National Environmental Education Foundation, in partnership with the National Park Service and other federal agencies. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers roll up their sleeves to help restore and preserve public lands of all types and sizes—from iconic national parks and rivers to local urban green spaces and everything in between."

Georgia is home to 11 sites that are managed by the National Park Service or designated as National Parks. More than 11 million visitors enter the Georgia locations each year, according to the US National Park Service.

Plus, the National Park Service manages additional locations in Georgia designated as National Heritage Areas, National Trails, National Register of Historic Places Listings, National Historic Landmarks and National Natural Landmarks.

With Hurricane Helene's path predicted to pass through Georgia on Friday, those visiting national park lands in Georgia with waterfalls may be in for a treat. Predicted heavy rains likely will fill the waterfall-feeding streams, pouring heavier-than-normal flows over the precipices.

Waterfalls are found throughout the Chattahoochee National Forest in North Georgia.

For a list of all National Park managed sites in Georgia, visit the US National Parks website.
