Egg Bar opens in downtown Dearborn, serving up halal breakfast options

Rise and shine! There's a new spot for breakfast sandwiches in downtown Dearborn.

Egg Bar on Military near Michigan Avenue arrived a couple of weeks ago. Its online menu highlights more than a half-dozen breakfast sandwiches featuring steam-baked eggs served on grilled Japanese Shokupon bread, also known as Japanese milk bread. Additions and toppings include turkey bacon, roasted oyster mushrooms, scratch-made sausage, and steak and eggs. All the restaurant's offerings are 100% halal.

Its classic sandwich is served on grilled Shokupan bread and includes the steam-baked egg with burnt onion jam, American cheese, and Egg Bar mayo topped with chives. Sandwiches are priced from $10 to $19.

On the menu side dishes are hash browns, called hash sticks. The Truffle Rosemary Hash Sticks are coated with truffle rosemary dust and served with caramelized onion dip. Also available are juice drinks made with various fruits including passion fruit, mango, and strawberry.

Egg Bar, open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily, is located in the old Muirhead's Department Store building at 22370 Michigan Ave. in Dearborn, although the entrance faces Military, where there is ample street parking. Call 313-771-8881 or go to eggbar.co .
