One person is dead and another is injured after police say a speeding driver went through a traffic light Friday morning in Dearborn.

Police were called at 7:59 a.m. to Michigan Avenue and Nowlin Street for the crash, according to a social media post from the Dearborn Police Department.

The location is in front of a series of strip malls.

Police believe, preliminarily, that a 26-year-old Taylor woman was driving an SUV over the speed limit eastbound on Michigan Avenue when she failed to stop for a traffic light at the intersection.

The SUV struck an F-150 truck headed northbound on Nowlin, police said.

The driver of the F-150, a 33-year-old Dearborn resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 26-year-old Taylor resident was taken to hospital and was in critical condition.

Dearborn Police Commander Timothy McHale, in a statement, thanked the public for its patience as the road was kept closed Friday for investigation.

“Our sincere condolences go out to the loved ones of the deceased and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating accident,” he said.
