DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A 23-year-old man has been effectively sentenced to life in prison for his part in a 2021 shooting that left a teenage girl dead .

On Tuesday, a Macon County judge sentenced Dreylynn O’Neal to 85 years in prison for murder and attempted murder. He was previously convicted in May of shooting two 17-year-olds in the head on Sept. 19, 2021.

Decatur Police found those victims in a car parked near East Walnut and North Lowber Streets. One of the victims — Demeshiona Miller-Fonville — did not survive.

O’Neal was one of several people to be arrested for the deadly shooting. One of them — Bryan McGee — wrapped up his trial in June with a plea deal. Prosecutors agreed to drop murder charges against him in exchange for him pleading guilty to possessing a gun as a felon. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison while being given credit for two years already served in custody.
