DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — More than a dozen people were arrested during a recent traffic enforcement operation in Decatur, police announced.

The Decatur Police Department was one of more than 200 law enforcement agencies in Illinois that participated in an IDOT-funded campaign to crack down on impaired driving and seat belt violations before and after the Fourth of July. Officials said it combined high-visibility enforcement with a variety of outreach activities, including the “It’s Not a Game” media campaign.

The Decatur Police Department’s enforcement effort lasted from June 21 to July 8. During those two weeks, officers made 14 arrests for impaired driving and issued four tickets for seat belt violations.

The enforcement effort was a part of the larger “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” programs, all run by IDOT.
