DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Two teenagers have been shot, one fatally, in an overnight shooting in Decatur.

Officials with the Decatur Police Department said officers were dispatched at 12:08 a.m. on Thursday to a home at Pine Street and Leafland Avenue to conduct a welfare check. When they arrived, they found a 19-year-old male with an apparent gunshot wound.

He was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

In addition, another teenager — a 17-year-old male — arrived at the hospital via a private car with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen. He is still receiving care, but is expected to survive.

Decatur Police said both victims were “associates” of each other and were together when the shooting happened. It is not believed that they shot each other.

Officers performed a neighborhood canvass to find witnesses and evidence; several shell casings were found at Pine and Leafland.
