Former Bachelorette star Rachel Lindsay offered some sage advice to Grant Ellis amid the recent news that he’ll be the next Bachelor looking for love: Lawyer up and get a prenuptial agreement.

TMZ reports that Lindsay claims “the most important Grant can do is protect himself if he proposes on the ABC show.”

Bachelorette fans may recognize Ellis from his brief stint on Jenn Tran ‘s season. Ellis only made it to Episode 6 of the show, which is still airing on television.

“As the Bachelor, Ellis is eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure, and genuine connections,” his bio reads. “He hopes to find a partner who shares his values of loyalty, humor and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.”

Let’s hope he finds a lawyer, too!

Lindsay appears to have learned a thing or two amidst her tense, ongoing divorce from Bryan Abasolo, whom she married after they met on her season of The Bachelorette in 2017. The former Bachelorette was recently ordered to pay “temporary spousal support in the sum of $13,257 per month” with no specific end date, according to documents obtained by People .

She was also ordered to pay a total of $20,000 for Abasolo’s legal fees.

Lindsay has been open about how much she’s struggled with the ongoing divorce. Her advice to Ellis doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering she recently said that she thinks “everybody should have a prenup.”

“It was just a different time, so I wasn’t leading with that,” she said on the Hidden Gems with Natasha Parker podcast. “And we weren’t on the same page with prenups, and so I just didn’t want it to be a bigger issue, so we didn’t have one. You know, hindsight’s 20/20. I would’ve done it. I mean, I always wanted to do it, but again, we weren’t on the same page when it came to that.”

She continued, “The place that I’m in now, you know, financially, however you wanna define it, is totally different than when I got married. We were more leveled, and I wasn’t in California.”

But Lindsay understood why people feel deterred from getting prenups, admitting the process is “unsexy.”

“I’m not the same person that I was when I got married,” Lindsay said. “You’re just not. And that’s why a prenup is necessary because you’re dealing with dissolving a marriage, and you’re two different people. My mistake is expecting that the people will be handle it in the same way.”

She added that its important to “protect your interest” because you never know what could happen.

“I think every person should have a prenup because I could have never predicted that in 2024, I would be getting a divorce,” she said. “You just never know what life’s gonna throw at you, what’s gonna happen.”

She also praised the franchise for casting Ellis as the new Bachelor , but notes “the whole cast” needs to become more diverse. Ellis will be the second Black lead of The Bachelor , while Lindsay was the first Black lead on The Bachelorette . Charity Lawson was announced as the Season 20 Bachelorette in March 2023.
