‘Emily in Paris’ Stars Lily Collins And Lucas Bravo On Emily And Gabriel’s Romance — And That ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ Scene

Emily in Paris Season 4 has arrived (well, half of it has!) and if you’re Team Gabriel, your time has finally come.

For more than three seasons, Emily (Lily Collins) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) have been engaged in an intense will-they-won’t-they dance, fueled by poor timing and feelings for other people. Gabriel was with Camille (Camille Razat) and Emily was with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount), but after the two couples called it quits in the Season 3 finale, a perfect window of opportunity opened for Emily and Gabriel to give it a go — and they finally took the leap.

Just like fans who’d been long rooting for the couple, Collins and Bravo were thrilled when they learned their characters were finally getting together.

“Part of the Gabriel in me was relieved, because it’s been such a long time since we had such intimate moments —since Season 1,” Bravo told Decider over Zoom ahead of the Season 4, Part 1 premiere. “It was so good to get back to that playfulness and to just go with confidence towards the woman you love, and to just try to reignite that flame. So I loved it.”

For Collins, her excitement began before Season 4 even started filming. “I definitely had heard the rumor that they were going to finally give it a go. So I was like, ‘Darren, is this real?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah! And then we’re gonna have a second drop in September, and they’re gonna see it play out longer, and all the intricacies of that relationship — the highs, the lows, all of the above.'”

After several seasons of sexual tension, heartbreak, and repressed emotions, Collins felt “it was nice to finally get to sit for a second within making a choice for Emily, and see what happens within that choice, and actually see the dynamic between Emily and Gabriel and what that would look like if they were in a relationship. Because we’ve not seen that before, and it’s Season 4, and you want to start to dive deeper into relationships, and make decisions, and see what happens based on those decisions.”

In Season 4, Part 1, a fearful Alfie took a step back from Emily to sort out his feelings, but by the time he realized he wanted to be with her, she had already chosen Gabriel. The American marketing wizard and the hot French chef shared a romantic slow-dance at a masquerade ball to a dreamy cover of “Dancing in the Moonlight” by AO Gerber and Isla June, and as everyone around them (literally!) disappeared it was hard not to root for them.

“That ballroom scene. It logistically took a long time, because there were so many angles and so many ways that they wanted to shoot that. And it looks so beautiful and epic because of the costumes and the location. It’s one of the most cinematic moments, I think, of this season,” Collins said. “There’s so many more dynamic cinematic moments this season, which I’m excited for people to see, but this one was so romantic. And I think the characters deserved a moment like that. I think that people have been waiting for a long time for them to have a moment to themselves. But a moment to themselves only lasts so long. So that’s when drama ensues and it gets complicated again.”

While drama is definitely lurking in Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 2, Bravo told Decider he loved shooting the entire season and “connecting with Lily in ways we never did before.”

“We just really wanted to tackle that connection and make it even more special than it was,” he said. The actors hope they did Emily and Gabriel’s connection justice. And for those wondering what happens to Alfie on Emily in Paris , rest assured Lucien Laviscount isn’t going anywhere.

“We haven’t seen the last of Alfie. Look, Emily also works with him. He’s such a stand up, wonderful human and such a great guy, and I think Emily really respects and values him,” Collins said. “He’s such an amazing addition to our show. So I think even if the relationship evolves, it doesn’t mean that it’s completely over. I’m excited for people to see how that’s handled, and I think it’s done very well and very respectfully.”

Laviscount also chatted with Decider over Zoom, where he assured us, “I definitely don’t think you’ve seen the last of Alfie. I think that choices are made in the heat of the moment, whatever that might be. But for Alfie, it’s the first time he’s really gone to depth with how he actually really feels. It might just be a little bit too late in this instance, but the respect he has for Emily and their friendship, I think, will blossom. And who knows what’s going to happen next, really?”
