Eugene and Dan Levy To Make Television History As The First Father and Son Duo To Host Emmy Awards

After earning a clean-sweep at the ceremony themselves just four years ago, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will return to the Emmys stage to host the 2024 awards.

The duo will make history as the first ever father and son pair to host the awards.

“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts,” Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said in a statement on Friday. “Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”

The president of Disney Television Group Craig Erwich also chimed in: “Eugene’s and Dan’s comedic intuition and uncanny ability to capture the hearts of viewers will make for a memorable Emmys telecast honoring this year’s best and brightest.”

The pair have each earned four Emmy awards themselves over the years, most notably for their show Schitt’s Creek , which earned 19 nominations and 9 awards over its run. On the show, both Levy men wrote and produced.

This year, Eugene’s Apple TV+ series The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy has been nominated for both Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series Or Special  and Outstanding Writing For A Nonfiction Program – “Scotland: My Mother’s Country.”

“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the duo said in an official statement . “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”

This will not be the first time the duo has taken the stage as hosts together. The father and son previously hosted the Screen Actors Guild Awards together back in 2020.

The pair succeed Anthony Anderson , who hosted the Emmys last year. The event took place four months after they were initially scheduled due to the writer’s strikes in Hollywood. They Levy duo will also be the first pair to host the ceremony since Saturday Night Live stars Colin Jost and Michael Che hosted together in 2018.

The 76th Emmys are set to take place Sept. 15 from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. The show will air live on ABC at 8/7c and will be available to stream next day on Hulu .
