‘Yellowstone’ Star Kelly Reilly Scores Lead Role In Upcoming Limited Drama Series ‘Under Salt Marsh’

Kelly Reilly is stepping out of her riding boots snd into a whole new role.

The Yellowstone star has been cast as Jackie Ellis, a teacher who previously worked as a detective, in Under Salt Marsh , Variety reports. According to the outlet, the new limited series, which takes place in a fictional Welsh town called Morfa Halen, hails from Sky Studios and Little Door Productions, and is six parts.

Series creator, executive producer, and writer Claire Oakley described the series as “a crime thriller set in a community deeply connected to its environment, and interwoven with the heartache, fears, dreams and secrets of its people,” per Variety .

“At the heart of it all is Jackie, a character who embodies the wildness of the place we’re depicting,” Oakley continued. “She’s free-spirited, compassionate, and determined, with a steely resolve that makes her truly of the land. We’re absolutely thrilled to have Kelly Reilly bringing Jackie to life.”

“As a once-in-a-generation storm begins to gather far out at sea, former detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis discovers the body of her 8-year-old pupil, Cefin, seemingly drowned. The discovery sends shockwaves through the community, reviving the ghost of an unsolved cold case that rocked the town three years prior – the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which cost her career.”

The logline continues, “Cefin’s death summons Jackie’s former partner, Detective Eric Bull, back to Morfa Halen to lead the investigation into a community he failed once before. Convinced the cases are linked, Jackie and Bull must reconcile and race to uncover long-buried secrets inside Morfa, before the storm breaks and all the evidence is gone for good.”

According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter , the series, which is set to kick off filming later this year, will be available to watch on Sky, as well as streaming service Now in the U.K. and Ireland. Meanwhile, NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution is manning the show’s international sales.

Reilly most recently appeared in Little Wing , a drama released earlier this year, alongside Brooklynn Prince and Brian Cox .

Last month, Reilly shared a video on Instagram from what appeared to be the Yellowstone set in Montana, noting that “the group of people that continue to make this wild show make it with all their hearts and guts.”

“I’m so deeply proud to be running alongside them. The rawness and beauty of this years season is really something. Can’t wait to share it. November,” she added, referring to the release of Season 5, Part 2 .
