Is Hoda Kotb Leaving ‘Today’? Daytime Host Missing From ‘Hoda & Jenna’ Once Again

Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager bring some much-needed levity to daytime television in the fourth hour of Today . That’s why it can be a bit of a let-down for fans when either of the hosts is missing from the show, as it went on Wednesday’s (Aug. 28) broadcast.

Bush Hager was instead joined by Today correspondent Donna Farizan. The television personality has become quite a mainstay on the show with her tender interview style and sense of humor.

This isn’t the first time Farizan has filled in for Kotb, either. She recently replaced Kotb in another pre-recorded episode in which she and Bush Hager made fun of a pair of designer jeans that appeared to be “pee-stained.” She was also recently replaced by Sheinelle Jones during the first hour of Today .

It’s unclear when Wednesday’s pre-recorded episode was filmed, but Kotb’s sporadic absence from the show has fans worrying that the longtime NBC host could be leaving The Today Show for good.

So, is Kotb leaving The Today Show or Today With Hoda & Jenna ? Here’s what we know so far.

There is currently no indication that Kotb has plans of leaving The Today Show .

She has been at NBC News since 1998, beginning as a correspondent before later co-hosting the fourth hour of Today with Kathie Lee Gifford and earning her own spot as a co-anchor on Today in 2017 following Matt Lauer ‘s exit.

In fact, Kotb’s absence from the broadcast may be due to a more exciting reason.

Bush Hager did not specify why Kotb was not on the show Aug. 28. But, Kotb has discussed the possibility of taking some time off for her impending move.

The Today host has been open about this period of change she’s found herself in. She is currently in the middle of moving herself and her two daughters — Haley, 7, and Hope, 4 — out of New York City and into their new house in the suburbs.

Perhaps she finally listened to Bush Hager’s advice. Kotb’s co-host practically reprimanded her on the show earlier this month when she said she didn’t want to take time off for the move though she admitted to feeling “overwhelmed.”

“Everything is gonna fit in, it’s all gonna work out,” she told Bush Hager after her co-host tried convincing her to “take a day [off] to move.”

“But as you said some things take planning and you have to actually unpack the boxes,” Bush Hager reminded her, to which Kotb insisted, “It’s too late!”

Later, when Kotb revealed she had packed some toys that she still had “to get rid of,” Bush Hager again admonished her, “But I told you to do that before you moved!”

“I know but I didn’t!” Kotb replied. “Here’s the thing, you can’t have anything new with old stuff.”
