Hoda Kotb, Jenna Bush Hager Lament Losing A Daytime Emmy… Yet Again: “We Gotta Hang In There”

Today ‘s Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager claim they don’t care about awards — except for the elusive Daytime Emmy, that is.

During Tuesday’s (Sept. 10) broadcast, the co-hosts were lamenting the fact that Beyoncé was snubbed by the Country Music Awards yet again when they were reminded of the fact that they were also snubbed this year.

After declaring that Beyoncé is surely “owed her due,” Bush Hager asked Kotb, “Do you care about awards?”

“I don’t, do you?” Kotb replied. After Bush Hager sadly admitted that she “never won any,” Kotb said, “You kind of want to win it and then you wanna say you don’t care about it.”

“Like the Daytime Emmy?” Bush Hager suggested.

“Yeah,” Kotb replied, causing them both to laugh. She then added with a groan, “It’s okay. We didn’t win it again, ugh.”

But Bush Hager pointed to yet another longtime daytime star who had to wait a long time to win her Emmy Award: All My Children legend Susan Lucci .

“Look at Susan Lucci,” she said. “If Susan Lucci can do it, so can we.”

“That’s right. It only took her how many seasons, 28?” Kotb joked with a laugh.

Lucci was nominated for the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series a whopping 21 times, but she only won once in 1999. Her work on All My Children did not go wholly unnoticed, however. The actress also won three Soap Opera Digest awards over the years.

Today With Hoda & Jenna was not nominated for any Daytime Emmy Awards this year, and neither were Kotb or Bush Hager. The pair have been nominated seven times throughout the years but have yet to win.

However, Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford won in 2019 for Outstanding Talk Show Host.

But the Today hosts still appeared hopeful. “We gotta hang in there,” Bush Hager said.

In early 2024, Kotb and Bush Hager commiserated with Pedro Pascal when he admitted during his SAG Award acceptance speech that he had been drinking because he didn’t expect to win.

“That would be us if we went to the Daytime Emmys,” Bush Hager joked .

“Right, because we never quite win that one,” Kotb fired back.

Maybe they’ll get another shot next year!
