Twenty-three years ago today on September 11, 2001, two planes were hijacked and subsequently crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City and in Washington D.C., killing nearly 3,000 people and injuring many more. It was the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, and the ramifications are still being felt today.

Over the past two decades, countless movies, TV shows, and documentaries have attempted to make sense of, offer some perspective on, and simply process this global tragedy. And while some may not want to relive the horror, others might find comfort—or, at the very least, meaning—in revisiting the incident through a movie on the anniversary.

If you’re a person who is looking to process the terrorist attacks today, and you’re looking for 9/11 movies, there are plenty of options out there, available on streaming services. Over the last few years, Netflix has debuted original content aimed at the anniversary, including The Anthrax Attacks , a documentary about the deadly anthrax letters that killed at least five Americans just weeks after September 11, 2001. Beyond that, there are straightforward biopic dramas from acclaimed directors, like Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center and Paul Greengrass’s United 93 . And there are fictionalized takes, like Mike Binder’s Reign Over M e , which stars Adam Sandler as a grief-stricken man who lost his family in the attack. Click through the slideshow above for a list of eight of the most moving September 11 movies you can watch on streaming today.
