While fans of the Netflix dramedy were likely holding out hope that Emily (Lily Collins) would rekindle a romance with Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) or Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) in Part 2 after breaking up with *checks notes* both of them this season, Emily in Paris dared to introduce a THIRD love interest for our girl.

Marcello, an Italian Stallion played by Eugenio Franceschini, is officially competing for Emily’s heart. And after Season 4’s big Roman twist, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of him if the series returns for Season 5.

In Season 4, Episode 6, Emily and Marcello share a charming meet-cute on a snowy mountaintop, a place we never expected to find Emily. After her flight to Chicago got canceled, Emily headed to a cozy cabin with Gabriel and Camille’s (Camille Razat) family where she attempted to learn how to ski. After Gabriel followed a pregnant Camille down a slippery slope, leaving Emily stranded at the top, Marcello swooped in to save her from a near-death experience. It’s clear that the two share palpable chemistry, but after he helps Emily to safety, says farewell, and she reunites with Gabriel and Camille it seems like they’ll never see each other again. Then, Emily breaks up with Gabriel so he can focus on Camille and the baby. And two episodes later, Marcello unexpectedly reappears!

Episode 8 shows Mindy (Ashley Park) and Emily attending a polo game to support Nico (Paul Forman), who just so happens to be friends with fellow polo player Marcello. He and Emily reunite, and a romance seems inevitable. But when she learns he’s visiting Paris from Rome, where he lives with his family and works as “a goat herder” a relationship seems out of the question yet again. But not so fast! Before Marcello heads back home he stops by an event to support Emily and invites her to visit him for the weekend. After much anticipation, yes. This is how we finally get Emily in Italy .

Emily takes Marcello up on his offer, embraces her in Lizzie McGuire Movie , and heads to Rome where she learns more about Marcello, his family, and his beautiful home, which again, is definitely not Paris. As noted, Emily’s new man is played by Eugenio Franceschini, a 32-year-old Italian actor from Verona, Italy. Per IMDb , Franceschini kickstarted his on-screen career in 2012 and has 30 credits under his belt, including Sapore di te, Maldamore, and Medici.

As for his role on Emily in Paris, the actor told People that “it’s an unexpected gift” to join the Netflix series. “…Everything happened very quickly. When I was selected, I was filming a TV series here in Italy, so I didn’t have time to realize what was happening. So, I threw myself into something.”
