Emmys Viewers Enraged After Shelley Duvall Snubbed From In Memoriam Segment: “Her Contributions Deserved To Be Honored”

The Emmy Awards ‘ In Memoriam segment honored several actors who passed away over the last year, but many fans at home were shocked to notice that Shelley Duvall was notably snubbed despite her work in television.

Backed by Jelly Roll singing “I Am Not Okay,” actors like Chance Perdomo , Carl Weathers , Donald Sutherland and James Earl Jones received a mention, alongside notable crew members and others who worked behind the scenes in Hollywood.

Duvall, who passed away in July 2024, was best known for her work in The Shining , Popeye , and Three Women . But she later made a name producing children’s programming and has been praised by many for becoming a “pioneer” in children’s television.

She executive produced several series including the classic Faerie Tale Theatre , Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories , Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle , and more. Duvall was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy twice in her career in television; once in 1988 for Shelly Duvall’s Tall Tales and Legends and in 1992 for Bedtime Stories .

Many took to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to honor her themselves for her career in film and children’s television.

A fan account for Duvall mentioned that Duvall was a “prolific producer for children programs and a pioneer in cable TV,” writing , “Her contributions deserved to be honored.”

“Its incredibly disrespectful and odd Shelley Duvall was not in the In Memoriam at the Emmys,” another fan wrote .

Others called the snub “disgusting,” writing , “She’s a legend!”

“Shelley Duvall was instrumental to children’s television in the 80’s & 90’s, so it’s beyond rude of the emmys to not include her in the memorial section,” another wrote .

Duvall wasn’t the only actor who was missing from the In Memoriam segment.

West Side Story legend Chita Rivera was also not included, while director Eleanor Coppola , as well as General Hospital actors Tyler Christopher and Johnny Wactor , were left out, too.

The 2024 Emmys are now streaming on Hulu.
