Drew Barrymore is speculating that celibate Gen Zers and celebrities must be “sober” — and she has a perfectly good reason for her logic.

With celibacy on the rise, Barrymore took to her eponymous daytime talk show to offer her opinion.

“Apparently, younger generations want to connect mentally and spiritually with someone before getting physical,” she said on The Drew Barrymore Show this morning. “They must be sober. Because when I drank, I was like, ‘Yeah. Let’s do this.’”

Stars like Julia Fox and Lenny Kravitz have admitted to practicing celibacy. Fox, for her part, told Andy Cohen in a May episode of Watch What Happens Live that “ nothing good comes from having sex .”

“I think with the overturning of Roe v. Wade and our rights being stripped away from us, this is a way that I can take back the control,” Fox, who had been celibate for more than two years at the time, said. “And it just sucks that it has to be in that way but I just don’t feel comfortable until things change.”

For Kravitz, who hasn’t been in a serious relationship in nearly a decade, his decision to be celibate was for “spiritual” reasons, per People .

On The Drew Barrymore Show, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson admitted that he has also taken “some sexy time hiatuses.” According to the rapper, taking time away from sex “allows you to focus” and go out with “different intentions.” However, he did admit that he would sleep with a woman he didn’t intend on dating because “it’s good.”

“Before you buy a car, sometimes you want to test drive,” he joked. “You want to make sure you got the right car.”

Barrymore, on the other hand, added, “As soon as sex is introduced, everything changes. And most importantly, expectations. None of us do to our friends what we would do to a lover.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
