Drew Barrymore will do anything for love — like taking out an ad in the newspaper to find a cute guy she once saw on the subway.

On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show , an engaged couple in the audience told Barrymore and Ross Mathews how they met on the subway after the woman boldly approached the man and had him add his contact to her phone.

According to Barrymore, she once experienced a similar feeling with a subway stranger — however, she didn’t have the guts to approach him.

“There was a guy on one of my commutes and I don’t know what it was about this guy,” she explained. “And then I printed in a newspaper, Missed Connections.”

Mathews, for his part, was shocked at the measures Barrymore was willing to take to find this mystery man.

“You did not!” he exclaimed, before turning to the audience and asking, “Do you remember Missed Connections? Like, ’Stranger saw you on the subway. If you were on the E train, I was the one in the…’ Did you say, ‘And I’m Drew Barrymore?’”

Unfortunately, Barrymore didn’t use her star status to properly identify herself in the ad.

“I was hoping that maybe old-fashioned fate would bring us together,” she said. “But I don’t think he ever saw it. I wish I would’ve said something to him.”

While Barrymore has been publicly single ever since she divorced Will Kopelman in 2016, the actress previously revealed that she’s “incredibly happy” being on her own.

“I have continually throughout my life made it about the other person. I’ve also spent many, many years being single and I have been so incredibly happy,” she said on the May 16 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. “I’ve made finally an investment in myself the way I have invested in others my whole life.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
