Shelley Duvall’s Partner Weighs In On Her Absence From Emmys In Memoriam Segment

Unlike devoted fans, Shelley Duvall ‘s partner Dan Gilroy does not consider her absence from the 76th Emmy Awards ‘ In Memoriam segment to be a diss.

While speaking with TMZ , Gilroy conceded that her exclusion could have been an oversight, and said he is not disappointed by the omission.

Fans had rallied around the late Duvall, whose work on Shelley Duvall’s Tall Tales and Legends and Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories earned her two Primetime Emmy nods, arguing that “her contributions deserved to be honored.”

Among the other recently deceased entertainers missing from the montage were Chita Rivera , Tyler Christopher , and Johnny Wactor . While Gilroy told TMZ that he values the outpouring of support from fans in this instance, he does not want them to become too bothered.

The Popeye star passed away on July 11 from complications from diabetes. Some of her notable film credits include Annie Hall , 3 Women , and The Shining .

Some big name stars featured in the segment included Bob Newhart , Carl Weathers , Donald Sutherland , Phil Donahue , and James Earl Jones , the last of whom died just last Monday (Sept. 9). Gilroy commended the segment, particularly Jelly Roll’ s performance of “I Am Not Okay.”

Emmys executive producer Jesse Collins praised Jelly Roll’s performance as “very brave” and “phenomenal” while speaking to Variety after the show.

“It was a different type of artist to perform on this show. And he wore a blazer!” Collins added. “That’s the first time he’s probably wore a blazer in his whole life. And no hat. He was very specific that he’s not wearing a hat.”
