Syfy and USA Network have given the axe to Chucky after three seasons.

‘UnPrisoned’ Canceled At Hulu After 2 Seasons

The series, based on the classic horror movie franchise, will not return for Season 4. Part 2 of Season 3 of the series aired its finale on both NBCUniversal cable networks just four months ago.

The news comes despite series creator/executive producer Don Mancini ‘s best efforts to keep the show going. He revealed back in April that he had pitched a fourth season, saying at the time that “it’s something I really like to do.”

Fans have shared his enthusiasm, launching a #RenewChucky campaign on social media, which has been rallying support for Season 4.

While the decision to cancel the series was disappointing for Mancini, who also created and wrote the movie franchise, he vowed that this is not the last we will see of Chucky.

“I’m heartbroken over the news that Chucky won’t be coming back for a fourth season but am so grateful for the killer three years we did have,” he said. “I’d like to thank UCP/Syfy/Peacock/Eat the Cat, our awesome cast and Toronto-based crew — the best in the business — and finally, to our amazing fans, a big bloody hug. Your incredible #RenewChucky campaign really warmed Chucky’s cold heart. Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back.”

Chucky was the very last UCP-produced original scripted series on Syfy after Resident Alien moved to USA with a significant budget reduction. The fate of these shows demonstrates the challenges of scripted offerings on cable networks in the cord-cutting era.

Although Chucky was originally greenlit by Syfy, it ended up being shared with USA so the two networks could split the cost.

The series follows the notorious killer doll Chucky as he goes on yet another murdering spree. Season 3 saw Chucky end up inside the impenetrable walls of the White House with America’s First Family. Jake ( Zackary Arthur ), Devon (Björgvin Arnarson), and Lexy ( Alyvia Alyn Lind ) must find a way to get to Chucky before he does too much damage.

Chucky was executive produced by Mancini alongside Nick Antosca , Alex Hedlund, David Kirschner and Jeff Renfoe.
