In April 2024, ABC renewed Will Trent for a third season . So why isn’t the show airing new episodes this fall? ABC is holding both Will Trent and The Rookie for midseason debuts, allowing the programs to have mostly uninterrupted runs.

“Both of those shows are firing on all cylinders, both in terms of ratings and the performance we see on Hulu,” Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich told The Hollywood Reporter back in May . “We’ll launch them in January, when we have huge promotional platforms in New Year’s Rockin Eve , as well as college football and a huge slate of Christmas programming. To have those shows go uninterrupted just felt like the best way to keep growing them, which is our goal.”

Will Trent and The Rookie should return in January 2025. Both shows are likely to air 18-episode seasons.
