Days before Tracker began production on its highly-anticipated sophomore season, Justin Hartley attended the Television Critics Association’s Summer 2024 press tour to answer burning questions about his hit CBS show, upcoming storylines, and — of course — his thoughts on a body swap film with look-alike Glen Powell. (Yes, we asked. You’re welcome.)

Decider sat down with the Tracker star and executive producer to discuss what’s in store for rewardist Colter Shaw, who hits the road again when Season 2 premieres on October 13. But we couldn’t pass up the golden opportunity to ask Hartley about that whole Glen Powell saga. IYKYK. And if you don’t know, allow us to explain…

Justin Hartley Talks ‘Tracker’s Success, Season 2 Storylines, And Working With Wife Sofia Pernas: “I Got So Lucky”

When covering the Golden Globes red carpet in January 2024, The Hollywood Reporte r memorably misidentified Justin Hartley as Glen Powell in a tweet that went viral. Deeply delighted by the mishap, Powell shared a screenshot of the flub and wrote , “I think this is the perfect time to announce that ⁦@justinhartley and I will be starring in the most boring body-swap movie of all time.” What a guy! Though Hartley (who last tweeted in 2022) stayed quiet, Powell kept the party going during a subsequent interview with THR , in which he asked Hit Man director Richard Linklater if he wanted to direct said body swap film. Linklater’s response? “Yeah, sure. Sign me up… I think it’s clear [Powell is] the body guy of this generation.”

All the duo needed was word from Hartley — and at long last, they’ve got it.

When Decider pitched the Linklater-directed body swap movie to Hartley and asked if he’d be on board, the actor laughed and said, “Yeah, sure!” After letting the ridiculous series of events that led to the inquiry soak in a bit more, he chuckled again, adding, “That sounds like fun. That’s funny.”

Is ‘Tracker’ On Tonight? When Does The Popular Justin Hartley Action Series Return For Season 2?

Powell came up again in the Tracker interview when Hartley confirmed he would consider directing a future episode of the series if Colter didn’t have to be on camera as much. “If we have an episode where it’s Bobby centric or it’s Reenie centric and I’m really not in it that much, that would make a lot of sense for me to direct that, because I would have time and it wouldn’t take away from the acting,” Hartley explained.

Another potential fix? Having look-alike Glen Powell join the show for an episode. “I could have him on to do one,” Hartley joked before confirming the team still has tons of storylines in mind for the show, which is a drama, not a comedy. Who knows, maybe Powell can make an appearance in Tracker Season 7, but until then, it’s time to get pumped for Season 2 and the Powell/Hartley body swap movie, which we’re actively willing into existence.

When THR asked Linklater and Powell about their 2024 goals earlier this year, Linklater said, “I want to be in development and be in production in the fall, [with the] body swap movie with Justin Hartley — if we can get it together.” So it sounds like there’s still hope!

While Linklater’s fall 2024 production dreams likely won’t become a reality, we’re getting the ball rolling with this article, people. And we trust that Glen Powell and Justin Hartley will continue to resemble each other for years to come.

For now, get pumped for Tracker Season 2 and be sure to read Decider’s full interview with Hartley for more behind-the-scenes insights.

Tracker Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
