Making Fetch Happen? Amanda Seyfried Accidentally Eats Dog Food On ‘Today With Hoda & Jenna’

You wouldn’t think that a segment on Today with Hoda & Jenna that began with “Let’s talk about pet insurance,” would result in one of the more chaotic moments the show has seen in recent weeks. But this is why we tune in, right?

Actress Amanda Seyfried was a guest on the show this morning to discuss the importance of pet insurance as a spokesperson for Carecredit, a program that simplifies paying for vet bills. Seyfried spoke about her own dog, Finn, who was beside her and who has endured many health battles and now, at 15 years old, she wants him to live out his remaining years happily. That’s when Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager revealed that they had a special birthday cake made to honor Finn’s recent 15th birthday, a gesture that Seyfried was clearly touched by and excited for. The cake, which was covered in white frosting and a frosted version of Finn’s face, was presented to Seyfriend who then recalled how she had a similar cake made for Finn on his 13th birthday that also featured a version of Finn’s head. “This is what we do in our home,” she said excitedly, gesturing to the cake.

“Can I eat it?” Seyfried then asked, but she didn’t quite wait long enough for a response. As she asked, both hosts seemed to want to persuade her against it. Bush Hager warned, “It’s dog friendly,” while Hoda said, “Well, we’ll save it and you decide.”

“I think you should wait,” Kotb then added as Seyfried leaned in to pinch a bite off the cake.

As Seyfried put the bit in her mouth, Bush Hager asked, seeming a little frantic, “What does it taste like? You might be eating dog food! Is it dog food? Oh, no , it’s dog food !”

Seyfriend smacked her lips and admitted, “Oh yeah, it’s not for us. It’s not for us. It’s not for us,” referring to humans. “Can I have some water?” she called to someone off camera.

“Can we have some water for her?” Bush Hager also asked.

“No, it’s great, guys, thank you,” Seyfriend added, laughing, and then saying under her breath, “It’s my fault.” Meanwhile, Finn waited patiently for his slice of cake … which never came, at least not on-camera.
