According to The Hollywood Reporter , the news of his death came via an online obituary notice.

The late actor, who was born John Whitin Lasell Jr. on Nov. 6, 1928 in Worcester, Massachusetts, portrayed vampire hunter Dr. Peter Guthrie in 25 episodes of the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows . The late actor also appeared in a 1961 episode of The Twilight Zone .
