In the Season 2 finale of Tell Me Lies , one of Season 1’s biggest questions was finally answered: What happened to Wrigley’s brother Drew?

For those who need a refresher, in a Season 1 scene at Evan and Bree’s 2015 engagement party, Wrigley showed up high and wreaked havoc on the party. When Lucy joked about his behavior, Evan told her to “go easy on him” because “it was just his brother’s birthday.” The vague comment left fans wondering if the brothers were simply estranged or if Drew was dead.

Now we finally have the answer…

While Drew and Wrigley are estranged for the majority of Season 2’s 2008 college scenes, the final episode reveals that Drew tragically and unexpectedly died that same year. As if losing his brother wasn’t hard enough to deal with, Wrigley also learns that he played a role in Drew’s passing and is also the one who found him dead.

So how did Drew die on Tell Me Lies Season 2? What happened to Drew and Wrigley? How did Benjamin Wadsworth’s character come back in Tell Me Lies Season 2? And what else was revealed in the jaw-dropping Season 2 finale? We’ve got answers.

After Drew’s difficult Season 1 and the emotional aftermath of the letter Lucy wrote about him, Drew left Baird College following his fight with Wrigley. Throughout Season 2, we saw Wrigley severely struggle with his brother’s absence, and though he repeatedly reached out and left him voicemails, Drew never returned his calls. Their severed relationship ate away at Wrigley as the season progressed until he broke down crying to Pippa and admitted he’s been depressed ever since Drew cut him out of his life.

Diana did Pippa a serious solid by reaching out to Drew and convincing him to visit Wrigley in his time of need. He reluctantly returned to campus and made long-overdue amends with his brother, and for a moment, everything seemed great. After Wrigley got vulnerable, apologized, and told Drew he loves him, the two spent the day together at the bar, drinking, reconnecting, and making up for lost time. Then, things took a turn.

Rather than head to a holiday party with his friends, Wrigley kept hanging with Drew, and to recover from their big night ahead, he offered him one of his painkillers. After Drew took half, the good times continued. He encouraged Wrigley to call Pippa and leave a charming apology voicemail, and we got glimpses of them enjoying their brotherly bonding time as the finale progressed.

Cut to the next morning, when Wrigley woke up incredibly hungover and discovered that Drew seemingly asphyxiated on his own vomit. When the friend group gathered to support Wrigley, he revealed the painkillers he gave Drew may also have been to blame. “He was splitting in half, but they were time-release and he can’t do that with a time-release pill. That can kill you,” Wrigley explained. (Yes, that’s a real, serious thing! And a thing I didn’t know about until this very episode of Tell Me Lies. So thank you, Meaghan Oppenheimer!)

How Wrigley responds to the unfathomable loss beyond those emotional scenes we still don’t know. What we do know, is that he’s alive and still in touch with his pals in 2015. So we hope to see more of his journey (and joy, after such hard times) in a potential Season 3.
