Illinois man killed in crash near Decorah, Iowa

DECORAH, Iowa (WKBT) -- An Illinois man is dead following a crash near Decorah Saturday.

According to the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, around 1:00 p.m. a vehicle driven by 78-year-old Rodney Carlson of Hanover Park, Illinois ran off of Highway 9 near 260th Avenue and disappeared into the ditch.

A witness told officers that the vehicle passed them headed west at a high speed before swerving and eventually running off the road.

Carlson was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of a head injury, according to Winneshiek County.

Deputies said family members confirmed that Carlson was the only person in the vehicle and that he left Decorah headed for Cresco.
