Thanks to our friends at Dinosaur World in Cave City just north of Bowling Green, we recently learned something new about something ancient. Kentucky has a state fossil: the brachiopod. Apprenticeships to be offered for career & tech students
SALYERSVILLE – With two weeks left until school begins, the Magoffin County Schools District is preparing for the new year. In the Tuesday, July 23 Magoffin County School Board meeting, Superintendent Chris Meadows told the board that the first day of school for students is August 8, and the elementary schools have been holding “kindercamps” to help the incoming kindergarteners to be ready for the school year. He said they have announced to the community that the school board will be funding school supplies for all students this year, again. Back to school nights are coming up, as well.
Grand jury to get double murder, attempted murder case
The case of a July 10 shooting at a Perry County party that left two dead and one injured will be heard by a Perry County grand jury. Following a preliminary hearing July 23 in Perry District Court, District Judge Cody Goehring ruled that there was enough evidence against Treston Combs, 20, of Hardburly Road, Bulan, and Emmaleigh Collins, 19, of Kenmont Road, Jeff, for their case to be considered for possible indictment by a grand jury.
Lexington rejects bid to subdivide large farm on Tates Creek Road. ‘We can do better’
A Fayette County planning body has rejected a request to subdivide a 144-acre farm near the Jessamine County border into 13 smaller lots. The Urban County Planning Commission voted unanimously Thursday to turn down a zone change for the property at 8200 Tates Creek Road from an agricultural zone to an agricultural buffer zone.

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was shot and killed by Louisville Metro Police officers Thursday night in southwest Louisville.
