Houston honors fallen Harris County Deputy Fernando Esqueda after he was killed in line of duty
HOUSTON – The Houston community came together Friday morning to honor a Harris County deputy whose life was taken in a senseless act of violence last week. Investigators believed the suspect, 44-year-old Ronnie Palmer, began firing a gun into the car Deputy Esqueda was driving. He was rushed to LBJ Hospital in a private vehicle, but he died shortly after.

HOUSTON - A global technology outage affected flights and businesses on Friday morning, including in Houston. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack — and that a fix was on the way. The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows.
Bush, Hobby 'fully operational' after global technology outage | Airlines provide updates
HOUSTON — A global technology outage had widespread impacts Thursday night into Friday morning, including at Houston's airports. Flights at Hobby and Bush were affected, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The FAA said airlines United, American, Delta and Allegiant had all been grounded as well. Around 7:30 a.m., the two airports both said they are "fully operational." The airports still encouraged passengers to check their flight status before heading out.

Some HISD campuses may not be ready for Aug. 12 start date due to Beryl damage, district says
The start of the 2024-2025 school year is less than a month away for Houston ISD students. However, some campuses may need more preparation time as Hurricane Beryl significantly damaged some areas.According to the district, Beryl impacted the largest school district in Texas, as 200 campuses lost power once the Category 1 hurricane landed.
