DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two men were arrested for cocaine trafficking after a traffic stop on I-91 initially for a revoked registration as well as an expired inspection sticker.

What does a mistrial mean in the Karen Read case?

According to State Police, on June 19th around 4:15 a.m. a Chevy Tahoe was traveling northbound on I-91 in Deerfield when a trooper stopped the vehicle. While talking to the four people inside, the trooper spotted an open folding knife in the center console along with various drug paraphernalia in the passenger compartment.

After receiving the driver’s information, the trooper went back to his cruiser and waited for backup. It was discovered that the driver, 52-year-old Richard Lovering of Lebanon, New Hampshire, had a suspended license and two active warrants for his arrest.

Once backup arrived, Lovering was removed from the vehicle and arrested. The other three passengers were removed and searched for any weapons or drugs. One of the passengers, 38-year-old Justin Morrill of Burlington, Vermont was allegedly in possession of 25 grams of crack-cocaine and was arrested.

Following a search of the vehicle, troopers seized four crack pipes, a rubber container of crack cocaine, a plastic bag filled with crack cocaine, a digital scale and drug paraphernalia.

Lovering was charged with the following:

    • Trafficking In Cocaine
    • Possession Of Cocaine
    • Operating A Vehicle With Suspended License
    • Operating A Vehicle With Revoked Registration
    • Inspection Sticker Violation

    Morrill was also charged with:

    • Trafficking In Cocaine

Another passenger in the vehicle also received a court summons for drug possession charges but was released after the traffic stop.
