    Deerfield girls track wins Deerfield Classic for the first time since 2001, boys finish third overall

    For the first time since 2001, the Deerfield girls track and field team brought home the championship at their home invite.

    Scoring 109 points, the Demons girls team finished in first place for the second time in program history during the 35th Annual Deerfield Classic held at Deerfield High School on Friday, May 3.

    The Deerfield girls team won six events and medaled in 10 events by finishing eighth or higher in each event.

    The Demons had their highest finishes in the 800-meter run with senior Ella Arenz (2:30.03), junior Piper Ryan (2:30.57) and freshman Madi Ledbury (2:32.27) recording a 1-2-3 finish.

    The 4x800 relay team of Ryan, Arenz, Ledbury and junior McKenna Michel took first place at 10:23.16.

    In the 1600 meter, sophomore Emme Drobac (5:17.58) and Michel (5:34.64) finished in first and fourth place. Drobac also won the 3200 meter in 11:17.22, while Michel (12:21.62) ran third. Drobac won MVP for the running events.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman won the high jump with a height of five feet and four inches.

    Berryman also won the triple jump with a 35 feet and 11 inches and finished fourth in the 100-meter dash finals at 13.30 seconds. Berryman was voted MVP of the field events.

    Junior Brianna Ament (16.71) placed third in the 100-meter hurdles. Ament (49.20) also placed third in the 300-meter hurdles.

    The 4x400 relay team of Drobac, Ryan, Arenz and senior Kylee Lonigro ran seventh at 4:35.12.

    The boys team won one event and medaled in 12 events, taking third as a team with 66 points.

    Senior Eli Key won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.31 seconds. Key also finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles at 42.32 seconds.

    Key, junior Wyatt Brattlie, senior Cody Curtis and senior Martin Kimmel ran second in the 4x400 relay at 3:35.92.

    Senior Parker Howard (12-0) and sophomore Ruben Bach (10-6) scored second and fifth in the pole vault.

    Junior Zack Hansen ran third in the 200-meter dash at 23.60 seconds. Hansen, junior Sam Haines, Howard and Brattlie placed third in the 4x100 relay at 46.16 seconds.

    The 4x200 relay team of Hansen, Brattlie, Howard and sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley took third at 1:35.70.

    The 4x800 relay team of Kimmel, Curtis, senior Robert Thompson and freshman Brady Fleming scored fourth at 8:36.71.

    Curtis (2:03.68) placed sixth in the 800 meter. Brattlie (38-11.25) took sixth in the triple jump.

    Kimmel (4:49.96) ran eighth in the 1600. Freshman Lane Shortreed (11:13.14) took eighth in the 3200.

    The Deerfield boys have won the Deerfield Classic four times in their history. Belleville won the 2024 boys event for the third year-in-a-row, scoring 87 points, while Columbus took second with 74 points.

    Johnson Creek Duals

    The Deerfield track and field team swept the Johnson Creek Trailways Duals on Tuesday, April 30.

    The boys team won their matchups against Parkview (101-42), Johnson Creek (125-20) and the Wisconsin School for the Deaf (117-27) and Madison Country Day (123-17).

    The girls team won their matchups against Parkview (90-50), Johnson Creek (84-60), Wisconsin School for the Deaf (124-7) and Madison Country Day (114-16).

    For the boys, junior Zack Hansen won the 200-meter dash at 23.53 seconds. Senior Cody Curtis (2:11.48) finished first in the 800 meter.

    Senior Martin Kimmel placed first in the 1600 meter at 5:04.96. Freshman Lane Shortreed won the 3200 meter in 11:34.73.

    Senior Eli Key took first in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.64 seconds. Key (42.83) also won the 300-meter hurdles.

    The 4x100 relay team of Hansen, senior Parker Howard, senior Wayne Thompson and junior Wyatt Brattlie finished in first at 46.29 seconds. The same four also won the 4x200 in 1:39.04.

    Brattlie, Curtis, Kimmel and Key won the 4x400 in 3:38.15. Shortreed, senior Robert Thompson, senior Landyn Christianson and freshman Brady Fleming (9:33.46) took first in the 4x800. Sophomore Ruben Bach (12-0) finished in first place in the pole vault.

    For the girls, junior Piper Ryan won the 800 in 2:33.40. Sophomore Emme Drobac (6:05.72) took first in the 1600.

    Junior Brianna Ament (16.45) placed first in the 100-meter hurdles. Ament (49.01) also won the 300-meter hurdles.

    The 4x200 relay team of Ament, freshman Madi Ledbury, freshman Violet Sweger and senior Kylee Lonigro finished in first place at 1:59.93.

    The 4x800 relay team of Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, junior McKenna Michel and sophomore Arden Nickerson took first at 10:44.18.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman (5-2) won the high jump and took first in the triple jump at 34 feet and 11.25 inches.
