    Deerfield baseball keeps pace in title race with comeback win against Hustisford/Dodgeland

    Trailing 7-6 entering the top of the sixth inning, the Deerfield baseball team rallied for four runs in a 10-7 win over Hustisford/Dodgeland on Friday, May 17 at Hustisford High School.

    Sophomore Declan Pohlman walked with the bases loaded, scoring junior Bryce Eickhoff, to tie the game at 7-7.

    Later in the inning, senior Kris Hahn reached on an error that allowed juniors Stephen Bagley and Mesfin Drexler to score the go-ahead runs. Senior Adam Suess then knocked in Pohlman on an RBI single to make the score 10-7.

    In the bottom of the inning, Hahn recorded two strikeouts and a pop out to close out the 10-7 win for Deerfield. Hahn pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, allowing one unearned run and recording five strikeouts.

    Suess, junior Aiden Brown and senior Austin Anderson all drove in two runs, while senior Jackson Drobac and Pohlman both were credited with an RBI.

    Deerfield is 14-6 on the season. The Demons trail Johnson Creek by half-a-game in the Trailways-South Conference title race.

    The Demons (11-1) will face Johnson Creek (11-0) twice this week, while Johnson Creek has a total of three conference games left. The Bluejays also face Palmyra-Eagle (11-2) who are in third place.

    Deerfield also drew the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will face the winner of Marshall/Parkview on Tuesday, May 28 at Deerfield High School at 5 p.m. in the regional semifinal.
