    Deerfield track: Girls win regional for third-straight year, boys third, a school record falls and headed to sectionals in 20 events

    The Deerfield track and field team qualified for sectionals in 20 events at the Deerfield Regional on Monday, May 20 at Deerfield High School.

    The boys team qualified in 10 events, taking third overall with 108 points. Marshall won the regional title with 146 points.

    Senior Eli Key won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.28 seconds. Key also qualified in the 300-meter hurdles, taking fourth at 43.19 seconds.

    In the pole vault, sophomore Ruben Bach (11-9) and senior Parker Howard (11-6) scored first and second.

    The 4x800 relay team of freshman Brady Fleming, senior Cody Curtis, senior Robert Thompson and senior Martin Kimmel placed second at 8:37.64. Curtis (2:03.10) and Kimmel (2:03.58) ran second and third in the 800 meter.

    Curtis, Kimmel, Key and Brattlie scored second in the 4x400 relay at 3:35.55. The 4x200 relay team of sophomore Brayden Hein-Berdsley, Howard, junior Wyatt Brattlie and junior Zack Hansen ran third at 1:36.03.

    Hein-Berdsley, Howard, Brattlie and Hansen took fourth in the 4x100 at 48.04 seconds. Howard (12.16) ran fourth in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Lane Shortreed (11:03.25) took fourth in the 3200 meter.

    The girls team also qualified in 10 events, winning the regional with 124 points. This is the third-straight season that the Demons have won a regional title.

    Sophomore Rylee Berryman broke a 22-year-old school record in the triple jump, taking first overall with a mark of 37 feet and 5.5 inches.

    Junior Piper Ryan, senior Ella Arenz, junior McKenna Michel and freshman Madi Ledbury won the 4x800 relay in 10 minutes and 24.5 seconds. Ryan (2:29.02) and Arenz (2:30.43) ran third and fourth in the 800 meter.

    Sophomore Emme Drobac (5:28.40) and Michel (5:37.04) ran first and fourth in the 1600. In the 3200, Drobac (11:52.88) and Michel (12:10.84) took first and third.

    Junior Brianna Ament won the 300-meter hurdles in 48.08 seconds. Ament finished second in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.24 seconds.

    The 4x400 relay team of Ament, Arenz, Ledbury and Berryman finished in first place at 4:15.33. Berryman won the high jump with a mark of five feet and took third in the long jump at 15 feet and nine inches.

    The Demons that placed fourth or higher will advance to the Horicon Sectional on Thursday, May 23 at 4 p.m. at Horicon High School. The top three from each event will advance to state.
