    Twelve persons indicted by most recent Defiance County grand jury

    A Defiance County grand jury has returned indictments against 12 persons, according to Prosecutor Morris Murray’s office.

    Indicted were:

    • Jaylen Rollins, 20, 717 W. First St., for aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 7, Rollins trespassed in a residence on Harrison Ave., where she then inflicted, or attempted to inflict, physical harm upon another person.

    • Sonya Chiles, 48, 1010 Harrison Ave., for OVI, a third-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 16 on Defiance’s Ottawa Avenue, she operated a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and having had five prior OVI convictions within the past 20 years, two of which were felony convictions.

    • Jose Rodriguez-Ventura, 25, Hicksville, for illegal possession of a firearm in a liquor permit premises, a third-degree felony; and improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony. Authorities allege that on March 22 at a business in Hicksville, Rodriguez-Ventura carried a firearm on his person while he was consuming alcohol. Authorities further allege that Rodriguez-Ventura then left the business and knowingly transported or had the aforementioned loaded firearm in the motor vehicle with him while traveling in Hicksville, and the firearm was accessible to the operator or any passenger without leaving the vehicle.

    • George Knight, 47, 625 Village Lane, for domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony; and endangering children, a first-degree misdemeanor. Authorities allege that on March 16 at his residence, Knight caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to a family or household member, and he did so in the presence of a juvenile, thus creating a substantial risk to the health or safety of said child. Knight also has a prior domestic violence conviction, which elevates the level of this domestic violence charge to a fourth-degree felony.

    • Billie Jo Downs, 48, Edgerton, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

    • Alyssa Johnston, 31, 14709 Harris Road, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

    • David Lavoie, 59, Hicksville, for theft and unauthorized use of property, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that in July, he stole property from another person and then used the property without permission of the owner. Authorities further allege that the property stolen is valued at $1,000 or more, but less than $7,500.

    • Santos Marroquin, 47, 08274 Ohio 15, for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony.

    • Joseph Sherman, 41, Milwaukee, Wis., for two counts of nonsupport of dependents, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that Sherman failed to provide adequate support for his child from May 1, 2018-April 30, 2020, and from May 1, 2020-April 30, 2022.

    • Tanya Smith, 47, Bloomville, for two counts of nonsupport of dependents, each a fifth-degree felony. Authorities allege that Smith failed to provide adequate support for her children from July 1, 2021-June 30, 2023.

    • Mark Yonge Sr., 65, 909 Holgate Ave., and Paul Anderson, 47, 524 Hopkins St., each for aggravated possession of drugs (methamphetamine), a fifth-degree felony. Yonge also was indicted for OVI, a first-degree misdemeanor.
