LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) recently held a roundtable at the Georgia Street Community Collective in Detroit to bring together thought leaders, local companies, non-profit organizations, municipal leaders and more involved in food production and distribution across the state. A key piece of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s recently signed bipartisan Fiscal Year 2025 budget is the development of the “Farm to Family” program to bring Michigan crops to family tables across the state.
Ypsilanti store among Big Lots closing in Michigan
YPSILANTI, MI -- Store closing signs are currently hanging on the Big Lots store in Ypsilanti, indicating the discount retailer’s time in the city will soon come to an end. Big Lots, 2850 Washtenaw Ave., is among four stores closing in Michigan, according to the company’s website. The other stores are in Portage, Okemos and Kentwood.

(CBS DETROIT) — Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords will visit Michigan this weekend as part of Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign trail.Giffords' husband, Sen. Mark Kelly, is one of the top contenders as Harris' running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Giffords was also a victim of a shooting during a campaign event with constituents in 2011.Officials said Giffords is scheduled to be in Rochester Hills on Sunday and Grand Rapids on Monday for the "Weekend of Action" events, which include canvass launches, phone banks, and text banks.Harris launched her presidential campaign after President Biden announced last weekend that he was dropping out of the race against former President Donald Trump. Shortly after withdrawing, Biden endorsed Harris for the Democratic nomination. Several other Democratic lawmakers, including Michigan Gov.
