James Newlun and Kevin Peterson who own and operate Scenic Bluffs Outfitters and are a solid part of Meadow...

Cross country: Norski boys win 3rd straight conference title; girls take second
For a third straight year, the DeForest boys are the Badger Large Conference cross country champions. And they used a pack mentality to secure the title. “It was a great performance from both our varsity and junior varsity squads,” said Norski head boys’ coach Joe Parker. “The course was in less-than-ideal conditions, but the guys did not allow that to distract from the task at hand.” There was a game plan, and the Norskies followed it to the letter. ‘Each had prepared a goal and other than adjusting their approach for the footing in the muddier sections of the course,...
An Outdoorsman's Journal: Keep the Kids Hunting
Hello friends, I spent this past weekend with 11-year-old Conner Thiede and his 13-year-old sister Carsyn at their deer camp near Burnett while participating in Wisconsin's Youth Deer Hunt. Kyle Zuelsdorf, a good friend of the families, would be mentoring Carsyn, and I would be helping Conner who are both from Mayville. I have been hunting deer and turkey with these very fun and into-the-outdoors kids and what we do is switch who I hunt with. Last October I helped Carsyn to harvest an 8-point-buck....

Kenya comes to DeForest via handwoven baskets
In the fertile, green, hilly landscapes of central Kenya, women have been making Kikapu for generations. Pronounced “kee-kah-poo”, it is the Swahili word for “basket.” Artisans weave them by hand using largely natural materials, such as sisal fiber, leather, and wool. They feature multicolor designs and traditional motifs, each one unique to the artist who made it. Now, these handmade crafts have made their way halfway around the world to DeForest. ...
