Wrestling: DeForest's Evans, Schmidt earn second team all-conference honors
Waunakee and DeForest wrestlers recently received All-Badger Large Conference postseason honors. Mason Spear (113), Gabe Metzler (144) and Jackson Lenzendorf (285) made the All-Badger Large Conference First Team for Waunakee. First and second team spots were determined based on their finish at the conference wrestling tournament. DeForest’s Tucker Schmidt (157) and Lucas Evans (138) qualified for the All-Badger Large Second Team. Earning spots on the second team for Waunakee were Brett Farrell (106), Payton Schutz (126), Quinn Pfeiffer (150). While not officially awarded by the conference, the girls’ first team included DeForest’s Hannah Mathews (145), while the second team included DeForest’s Abigail Harris (126) and Waunakee’s Ellie Lenzendorf (165).
DeForest man's invention advances in Governor's Business Plan Contest
A DeForest man’s company is one of 52 now in the second round of competition in the Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest. Erick Przybylski is the founder of Simul8, a medical simulation and innovation company that grew out of his DeForest home in 2019. Girls basketball: Kelliher, Oberg named to All-Badger Large First Team
DeForest seniors Jada Kelliher and Rylan Oberg joined Waunakee’s Claire Meudt on the 2023-24 Badger Large Girls’ Basketball All-Conference First Team, which was recently announced. Meudt, also a senior, was one of two unanimous selections. Jordyn Derlein received honorable mention for the Norskies, while Waunakee’s Tessa Bryan, Audrey Meudt and Lexi Fuhremann also earned honorable mention. Rounding out the first team were Beaver Dam’s Nataya Donaldson and Gabby Wilke, Milton’s Holly Morehart, Monona Grove’s Abbey Inda, Oregon’s Delaney Nyenhuis and Sam Schmitt, and Watertown’s Drew Hinrichs. Nyenhuis was named Player of the Year, while Oregon’s Adam Wamsley was selected as Coach of the Year.
Boys basketball: Norskies receive second-team all-conference honors
Two Waunakee players were unanimous selections for the 2023-24 Badger Large Boys Basketball All-Conference First Team, while DeForest’s Jackson Accuardi and Lincoln Hottman earned second-team honors. Keaton Frisch and Kaden MacKenzie both were picked to represent the Badger Large-champion Warriors on the first team. They were joined by Milton’s Ayden Goll, Oregon’s Vaughn Karvala and Beaver Dam’s JT Kaul. Waunakee’s Eli Selk and Jake Bova received honorable mention. Goll was named Player of the Year, while Milton’s Ian Kirst was voted as Coach of the Year.
Mary Todd Lincoln to visit DeForest
The DeForest Area Historical Society, the DeForest Area Public Library and the Cornerstone Community Center invite the public to a special program titled Mary Todd Lincoln: Preserve the Union. There is no cost for this event held on Tuesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at the Cornerstone Community Center. In this presentation by historical impressionist, Jessica Michna, Mary recalls her early years and education in Lexington, Kentucky. She recalls how she came to be an abolitionist and tells of her move to Springfield, Illinois, where she would meet and marry a young prairie lawyer. Mary introduces the audience to life in Washington, regaling her listeners with stories about her boys, including her biggest boy, Mr. Lincoln. In this time of national strife, the Lincolns would suffer personal tragedies, concluding on that fateful day in April of 1865.
WIAA: Board of Control OKs Badger Conference lacrosse alignment, DeForest's move to Big Eight for boys' volleyball
The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control approved several of the Conference Realignment Task Force recommendations for conference realignment, advanced three Constitutional amendments to the Annual Meeting, and increased tournament officials’ and State Tournament workers’ pay at its March meeting today. Boys basketball: Norskies ousted from postseason by Milwaukee Lutheran
It was one and done for the DeForest boys’ basketball team this postseason. Facing Milwaukee Lutheran in a regional opener, the Norskies fell 73-60, despite big-time play from Lincoln Hottmann and Jackson Accuardi, who finished with 22 and 21 points, respectively. Hottmann also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal, while Accuardi had a team-high eight boards, plus two assists and three blocks. The Norskies finish the 2023-24 campaign with a 12-13 overall record.
