DeForest adopts Deer Management Plan
The DeForest Village Board voted 5-0 in favor of adopting a proposed plan to manage the village’s deer population on Tuesday, March 19. Trustees Brian Taylor and Jim Simpson were absent for the meeting. After conducting two drone surveys to in recent weeks, the village’s Director of Public Services Judd Blau stated that both flights counted an “exceedingly high” number of deer in a 1.65 square mile area even by conservative estimates. ...
DNR: Volunteer hunter education instructors needed
MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking volunteers passionate about promoting safe, responsible and ethical hunting practices to serve as hunter education instructors. Volunteer opportunities are available in all parts of the state. Since the program’s creation in 1967, more than 20,000 volunteer instructors have trained and certified more than one million hunters across Wisconsin. These efforts have helped make hunting a much safer activity, including a 95% decrease in hunting-related incidents since the start of the program. ...

Boys lacrosse: Norskies get first win of 2024
The DeForest boys’ lacrosse team is now 1-2 overall after a 14-2 pounding of Watertown on Monday, April 1. No statistics were available for that game as of press time. The Norskies (1-1 in Badger Conference play) opened the season with a 20-3 loss to Middleton and a 16-2 defeat against Waunakee. So far this season, Carson Volenberg is leading the way in goals with three, while Hunter King and Deagan Spahn also have goals. Michael Zulkoski tops the Norskies in groundballs with nine, while Owen Larson has caused a team-high turnovers.
