    Wrestling: Evans, Schmidtknecht take third at conference meet

    Led by Lucas Evans and Dane Schmidtknecht, the DeForest wrestling team placed 10th at Saturday’s Badger Conference meet.

    The Norskies totaled 118 points, as Watertown topped the field with 280.5.

    Evans (138) and Schmidtknecht (285) both took third in their respective weight classes, as Schmidtknecht pinned three opponents, including Portage’s Colin Thompson (1:45) and Sauk Prairie’s Curtis Hankins (4:41).

    Schmidtknecht (15-15) had to go through the consolation brackets after losing to eventual champion Jackson Lenzendorf, of Waunakee. In the third-place match, Schmidtknecht won by fall in 2:17 over Beaver Dam’s Michael Keberlein.

    Evans (29-9), after a first-round bye, pinned Watertown’s Joe Logan in 3:29. A 6-1 decision sent Evans to the consolation round, where he edged Beaver Dam’s Ashtyn Seifert 6-4. In the third-place match, Evans scored a 3-1 decision over Waunakee’s Dane Spencer.

    Other Norski wrestlers who placed included: Tayden Ringstad, seventh, 106; Alex Busch, 113, eighth; Cooper Feiner, fifth, 120; Michael Pertzborn, eighth, 144; Tucker Schmidt, sixth, 157; Karsen Gear, seventh, 165; and Owen Voeck, seventh, 175.
