DeForest’s Rylan Oberg is one of 15 female athletes to receive the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association 2024 Boys and Girls Basketball Elite Academic All-State Award.

“Rylan Oberg will leave DeForest High School as one of the most decorated athletes in school history,” said Norski head girls’ basketball coach Jerry Schwenn. “She is one of few athletes ever to be awarded 12 varsity letters (cross country, basketball, soccer) and has served as a captain in all three sports. Rylan finished in the top 10 of DeForest High School Girls Basketball program history in all major career categories: No. 3 scoring (1,115), No. 9 rebounding (485), No. 5 assists (241), and No. 3 steals (223).

Oberg was the Norskies’ team Most Valuable Player and team captain this past season. She was named to the All-Badger Large Conference First Team for 2023-24 and received WBCA Division 2 honorable mention all-state. She’s also been selected to play in the WBCA Division 2 All-Star Game this summer.

To be recognized, WBCA member coaches were required to nominate their athletes. Minimum requirements for nomination included seniors with a GPA of at least 3.5 and an ACT score of at least 25. Nominating coaches could also provide additional information including on-court statistics, awards and accolades, and a personal narrative.

The WBCA Executive Board selected the 16 boys and 15 girls’ recipients (there was a tie in the boys voting) from the list of nominees. As previously announced, the WBCA, in a continued quest to recognize the outstanding work of the student-athletes around Wisconsin, has modified and expanded the Academic All-State program beginning in 2023.
