Picking right up where they left off in 2023, the DeForest girls’ track and field team — the defending state Division 1 champions — won Saturday’s 12-team Watertown Indoor Invitational, as Quinn Aulik raced to first in the 800 run and Stacy Kipkoskei topped the field in the 200 hurdles.

"I was very happy with how our girls' performed at the two Watertown Indoor meets we have had so far," said DeForest head girls' coach Joseph Schneider. "Our main goal in these early, indoor meets is to get as many athletes as possible to compete against other schools. It is a great opportunity for our younger athletes to get used to logistics of a meet (when to warm-up, getting use to the rules, etc). It is obviously a bonus to perform at the high level we did to take first as a team at both meets and to have as many individuals and relays earn medals. That shows how much work our girls have put in out of season, as well as in season so far. It was a great start to the season."

The Norski girls piled up 119 points to take first, while the DeForest boys finished second to Watertown (143.5) with 111.

Kipkoskei, the defending state champion 300-meter hurdler, won the 200 hurdles in 29.77 and placed second in the 55 hurdles (8.92), while Aulik finished first in the 800 run in 2:42.98 and Delaney Aulik was third in 2:54.24. Meanwhile, DeForest’s Brianna Estness (29.67) and Jenna Graske (29.92) ended up second and third, respectively, in the 200 dash.

Taylor Bussiere was another Norski individual winner, taking first in the 3,200 run (12:04.00). DeForest ran to first in the 1,600 relay in 4:45.44. Quinn Aulik, Delaney Aulik, Emma Hermansen and Bussiere took first in the 3,200 relay in 11.16.7 for the Norskies.

Also, Mackenzie Johnson battled to second in the shot put with a throw of 32’00.5”, and Mj Nelson (6:07.08) and Hermansen (6:27.51) were second and third, respectively, in the 1,600 run.

On the boys’ side, DeForest also won the 3,200 relay, with Aidan Harsh, Jacob LeFever, Connor Anhalt and Wyatt Parker finishing in 9:33.8. Another first-place effort was turned in by Brooks Ohmen, who won the high jump by leaping 5’10”.

Bradley Jacobson was third for the Norskies in the 55 dash, crossing the line in 7:04, as Parker took third in the 1,600 run in 5:03.40.

Ian Fries raced to second in the 400 run (56.92), while DeForest was runner-up in the 4x160 relay in 1:23.72, Mason Dobbs took second in the 800 run (2:18.15) and CJ Galloway was second in the 200 dash (25.52). Brooks Wilson cleared 11’6” to win the boys’ pole vault.
