    Boys tennis: DeForest ninth at Mukwonago Sweet 16 Invite

    The DeForest boys’ tennis team had a strong showing at the Mukwonago Sweet 16 Invitational, finishing ninth overall.

    After opening play with a 6-1 loss to Germantown in the round of 16, the Norskies won their next three matches, topping Wauwatosa East, Muskego and Waukesha South.

    Against Germantown, DeForest’s No. 1 singles player Hadley Jones swept Sam Schilder 6-4, 6-4, but Germantown won the rest of the matches. Jonathan Wells had a tight match at No. 2 singles, before falling to Shay Nelson 7-5, 4-6, 11-9.

    In the consolation quarterfinals, DeForest downed Wauwatosa East 5-2, winning three of four singles matches.

    Wells and Max Hein won in straight sets at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively, while Christopher Sorenson rallied to defeat Bennett Collum 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.

    In doubles play, the Norskies’ No. 1 duo of Oliver Anderson and Ethan Piontek dispatched Alexander Broeckert and Harper Morn 6-3, 6-3 and Colin Murray and William Sachtjen lost only three games in sweeping George Terhune and Roberto Villanueva at No. 3 doubles.

    DeForest moved on to face Muskego in the consolation semifinals, winning 5-2 again. Wells won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Hein took care of Ben Meyer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Sorenson defeated Grant Schaal 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.

    Piontek and Anderson survived a 6-2, 4-6, 11-7 battle to take the No. 1 doubles match, as Sachtjen and Murray cruised past Clayton Schaal and Evan Murray 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.

    After taking that match, DeForest was matched up against Waukesha South in the ninth-place match, where the Norskies emerged victorious 4-3. They split the four singles matches, with Jones winning at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-7 (5), 10-7 and Sorenson taking the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 7-5.

    DeForest won two of three doubles matches, as Anderson and Piontek dispatched Maxwell Goralski and Tyler Sanderfoot 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles and Sachtjen and Collin Murray rolling past Charles Klug and Benjamin Bollmus 6-3, 6-0.
