The DeForest softball team started off the 2024 campaign with a bang, crushing Sauk Prairie in the Norskies’ home opener 16-0.

They almost started off 2-0, but DeForest was clipped by Monona Grove on the road on Tuesday, as the Norskies’ rally fell short in a 7-6 loss. They found themselves down six runs in the second inning.

Raegan Smith and Payton Steffen had four hits apiece for DeForest, now 1-1. Steffen also drove in a run and pitched six innings, striking out two and walking three. Of the seven runs she allowed on nine hits, only four were earned.

Sofia Rauls also had an RBI for the Norskies, while walking twice. DeForest batters worked Silver Eagles’ pitching for five walks, as Desirae Kallstrom raced for two steals.

DeForest hosts Beaver Dam on Thursday.
