ATLANTA -- Career and technical students in your area were recognized at the 2024 SkillsUSA Championships, held in Atlanta, on June 26-27. More than 6,000 students competed at the national showcase of career and technical education. The SkillsUSA Championships is the largest skill competition in the world and covers 1.79 million square feet, equivalent to 31 football fields or 41 acres.

Howard charged with murder
FORT PAYNE, Ala. — On June 25th, 2024, Deputies with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Collinsville Police Department and Crossville Police Department, responded to an address on County Road 221 in Collinsville in regards to an unresponsive female. When Law Enforcement arrived, the victim was found to be deceased with an apparent gunshot wound. The Dekalb County Criminal Investigation Division then responded due to suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WDEF) — A man from Trenton, Georgia was injured in a fall at Little River Canyon Falls Park over the weekend, according to DeKalb County authorities. A 21-year-old man was walking at the top of the falls when he fell about 40 feet, according to officials.

The Fort Payne City Council had special visitors last week – puppies, brought to the meeting by volunteers at the DeKalb County Animal Shelter. Animal Shelter volunteer Christy Nugent said the shelter wants to add a dog and cat park – an area where the animals can be outside. She said some people who come to the shelter say it’s sad, because the animals are confined. If someone is interested in adopting a pet, she said, that dog or cat coming out of cage is going to be hyper.
