ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — ComEd said it expects to have 80% of power outages in the region restored by 3 p.m. Wednesday after a line of strong storms swept through northern Illinois on Monday night.

ComEd Vice-President of Distribution Operations, Mike Martin, said about 430,000 customers lost power state wide, with 295,000 restored by Tuesday afternoon.

ComEd currently shows 7,340 outages in Winnebago County, 2,611 in Ogle County, 2,178 in DeKalb, 1,793 in Stephenson County, and 77 in Boone.

Martin said there were 10 simultaneous tornados Monday night, although the National Weather Service has not confirmed that information as of press time. Martin also said the storms generated wind gusts of 70 mph, carrying debris that impacted its infrastructure across northern Illinois.

ComEd reiterated that crews are working around the clock to restore power, and expected 99% of customers to have their power restored by Friday. Martin said the company is giving priority to water and sewage pumping plants.

The company also has called in mutual aid from Canadian and Wisconsin electrical contractors.
