After nearly four decades serving diner staples in San Diego, Perry's Cafe is set to close its doors this summer to make way for a new residential building. Perry's Cafe has been serving the community near the junction of Interstates 5 and 8 in San Diego's Loma Portal/Old Town area since its inception in 1985. Founded by Greek immigrants Constantine "Costas" and Margaret Georgakopoulos, the cafe quickly established itself as a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike looking for classic American diner fare, generous portions, and friendly service. Beginning this Thursday, the superheroes, participants in the Contest of Champions, will be joining fans wheeling through the sky a short distance from the San Diego Convention Center. The superheroes, however, won’t be doing battle, fortunately–they are merely decorative wraps that have been applied to the Ferris wheel’s dangling cars!

Stick Figure sells out two nights at San Diego’s Rady Shell
If you were anywhere near The Rady Shell in San Diego last weekend and heard a massive wave of reggae bliss, you likely experienced Stick Figure, SOJA, and Little Stranger in action. The Rady Shell, a breathtaking outdoor amphitheater with a backdrop of the San Diego skyline, was the perfect setting for these incredible bands. The open-air venue felt as though the universe hit the “chill” button and dialed up the good vibes. With smooth rhythms and playful tunes, the night was a perfect escape — so laidback that even the seagulls appeared to be dancing along!

SAN DIEGO – This past weekend I stayed at Sycuan Casino Resort on a reservation owned by one branch of the Kumeyaay people. My favorite slot machine is in the non-smoking section. It is named Aztec Temple and is a “penny slot.” I like this machine since I am a graduate of San Diego State University, whose team nicknames are the Aztecs, and I always get more than I put in (fingers crossed I don’t jinx myself for next time).
