SARATOGA SPRINGS — Three alternative rock staples from the early 2000s packed and sold out Saratoga Performing Arts Center on Saturday night. “Wid ahms wad opahn," (to appropriate the distinctive singing style of frontman Scott Stapp,) an audience of approximately 20,000 greeted headliner Creed for a total of four hours of rock music from their Summer of ‘99 tour. Thankfully, with everyone packed as tightly as they were, the weather was a lovely, mild summer evening.

Queensbury Red Lobster set to close before August ends
Queensbury, NY (WRGB) — According to a report from CNN, the Queensbury Red Lobster is one of more than 100 locations shutting down by Aug. 31. The CNN article cites recent court filing shows that the company is rejecting the leases of an additional 23 locations, including Queensbury and a Bronx location by Saturday, August 31. This put the total shuttered restaurants at more than 100 from the beginning of summer 2024. The chain will reportedly have around 500 outlets left, down from the 650 at the start of the year.
Chester's V.F.W. post shuts down after 78 years
CHESTERTOWN | Prominent in northern Warren County since World War II, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Glendale Post 5513, based in the town of Chester, has ceased to exist. For 78 years, the VFW Post 5513 members not only marched in parades and participated in patriotic ceremonies, they also dispatched color guards for funerals of veterans and fallen soldiers, supported families of service members, and promoted patriotism among local youth by sponsoring scholarships and essay contests.

New EV charging hub opens at Colonie library
The town of Colonie unveiled its first electric vehicle charging station on Tuesday. It’s at the William K. Sanford Library. There are eight charging spots available. This is all part of the town’s goal to earn silver certification in the New York State Climate Smart Community Designation, according to Town Supervisor Peter Crummey.
Delmar gift shop moves to larger space
Merriman & Pfister opened in 2015 in the heart of Delmar’s Four Corners neighborhood. They recently moved to a larger space at 340 Delaware Avenue in Delmar. It offers on-demand, last-minute gift shopping services, but the shop also has studio space for artists, and a workshop space for classes like paint and sips and card making.
