DCAD to close in upcoming weeks
After 27 years of opening its doors, the Delaware College of Art and Design (DCAD) will close permanently and will no longer teach students. DCAD will be winding down operations in the coming weeks and will no longer be offering classes or awarding degrees for the 2024-2025 school year. In a letter written to students and faculty, DCAD President Jean Dahlgren said the decision was “not made lightly” and done with “a heavy heart.”

Today, the firm is the largest development firm in Delaware, and largely built Wilmington’s Riverfront, including the Chase Center on the Riverfront, the Shipyard Center, the Christina Crescent and Gates Building, and more. In 2022, Pettinaro completed a long sought-after project in redeveloping Barley Mill Plaza and attracting the state’s first Wegman’s grocery store. That project is continuing with future phases, and the firm’s attention will soon turn to the redevelopment of the former Hercules golf course.
